Personality Plus! by Cynthia Duncan
It is easy to observe human nature, on both the side of beauty
and on the side of beast. Human nature is ours to witness every day,
from that which is enlightening and uplifting as well as that which
is distressing and shocking.
In light of the internet and all that
it offers, another observation can be made...a phenomenon that is pleasantly
surprising: people are actually getting to know each other...at least on a
surface level...without the constraints or restraints of physical appearance.
The Internet has opened up all kinds of possibilities and places to meet and
get to "know" someone, from chat rooms to interactive websites. So many people
who would have never approached each other initially are NOW getting to know
someone from the inside out, rather than the other way around. What a positive
feeling of warmth we are receiving form this cold machine with blinking lights,
a screen and of all things, a mouse. Welcome to the 21st century of meeting
friends, lovers and even business associates through this medium.
We each have
something to offer someone: perhaps it's a quirky sense of humor, an eye for the
unusual, the ability to make someone smile. Sometimes, we are unable to share
these very qualities that make us unique because we can't get past the
physicality of a person. Voila...this situation is re-addressed via the computer.
Here, we are able to...and give me just a bit of creative latitude here...read
the book first and THEN see the cover. Can you imagine if all books had no
covers and you HAD to read them to see what they are about? THAT is what
sites like this are able to afford us. What seems to be happening, in turn,
is a sense of confidence. In this mad world of stick figures for models and
advertising splattered anywhere and everywhere (yes...including on the computer),
take pride in your personality and let it shine!
